Jul 6, 2010 - @Mirkwoodelves I would agree with you. However, althougth Woody Guthrie was not a communist, he made a point of saying so, he was very definitely a socialist. He may not have been completely against private property but his words and songs make it very clear that he was for redistribution of wealth and very much against control of resources by a privileged and unaccountable few. In my opinion, that's what the song is about.

In the USA you have socialised education, military, law enforcement etc etc. The only difference is we have one more socialised thing that you and that is healthcare. 99% of people in the UK want it this way and believe our population including children do not deserve to suffer without proper healthcare. I hope one day your children will also have the right to healthcare.

If you don't like it then change the voting system to a more proportional representation model like we have in New Zealand or any of your European neighbours. Get up and change the system but be prepared for what you get. Political fringe elements will get a voice and your population is highly diverse so you may just want to keep quiet.
